While we’re constantly being busy worrying about the future and what’s to come, we forget how to live and enjoy the moment. We may be stressing out on things that don’t actually matter, thinking about a bad yesterday, or having negative thoughts that interfere us from enjoying the moment. Many people like to take life for granted without even realizing it. You can’t live in the moment if your mind is filled with unnecessary distractions. Before thinking about the future, take a step back and breath for a moment. Life is precious and nothing less. No one knows the future but only God, because what if there’s no tomorrow?
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
Proverbs 27:1
Everyday is always a new day. Forget about that bad yesterday you’ve had. Forget about that cruel person who tried to ruin your day. Forget about someone that always questions your worth. A lot of us can’t help but let irrelevant situations get in the way of our happiness. Trust me, I’ve been there and I know how difficult it feels. We can’t always control everything that happens in our lifetime. Of course life can be unfair at times, but if you take a moment and find the good things in life—you’ll realize how beautiful life truly is.
The future isn’t here yet, so why waste your time worrying about the future that’s not even promised? If you want to make matters happen, don’t wait. Start now. Start small. The secret to enjoying the moment is to live your life how you want and not how others want. You have to choose your own happiness instead of living up to other’s expectations. Life is way too short to try and please others. Imagine if today was your last day on earth, how would you spend it? Would you spend all day being sad and upset or would you spend all day doing everything that you love while being happy? Happiness is evidently not by chance but by choice. I understand if you’re going through whatever loss it may be, but you have to think about how you can use it as a motivation for change and growth.
When you think about life, life is never perfect. Life is always full of ups and downs like a rollercoaster. It’s like a never ending story where we feel trapped. We have to learn how to handle whatever life throws at us since us humans are sensitive beings. There’s no such thing perceived as “perfect” in my eyes, because we’re always going through a continuous cycle making mistakes. The imperfections in life are what makes life beautiful. You will either allow your mistakes to define you or help you grow as a person. Making mistakes is a building block for every foundation that leads to the future. Without learning from mistakes now, there is no success or purpose. Even though the future is not promised—if you don’t focus on working hard today, you cannot progress towards the future. No matter how sad this sounds, be mindful that everything on this planet is temporary and nothing lasts forever. The only thing that’s permanent are the memories you once lived.
There’s only a limited time on earth for everyone. While we’re still here, we should spend our time wisely doing what we love that makes us happy. Value your time around the people that you love and enjoy every moment you can with them, because you never know when it’ll be your last moment with them. One of my biggest regrets was being mad at a loved one before their life got taken away too soon. No matter how upset you are with someone, learn how to apologize and forgive one another. Don’t waste your day being mad at them. Instead, show appreciation for them. If the world was ending tomorrow, we’d question our existence if we really lived or not. Sometimes we need to take our own advice including I, to not take life for granted.
The past is already gone and the future hasn’t arrived. Looking back or into the future is going to make you miss out on what’s happening in the moment. Think about what you are doing now and how it will affect your mind. There’s a Disney saying: yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift. That is why it is called a present. You gotta put your past behind you. When the world turns its back on you, you turn your back on the world. Amen.
How to live in the moment
Be more appreciative of the little things
Don’t get upset by the things that you don’t have, but appreciate the things that you do have. Be grateful that you’ve got to wake up this morning alive and well. Don’t ever compare your life to others, because no one has it all no matter what social media tells you. We feed off of social media a lot that takes us away from enjoying our own time. Social media isn’t essentially bad, but if it’s draining you and making you feel insecure by looking at others then it’s best to take a break. The little things in life are utterly so beautiful that we often overlook whether it’s spending time with your family and friends, petting a dog, or growing flowers in the garden. Pay attention to the little things in life that count the most.
Learn to let go
Many of us like to dwell in the past and wonder what we could’ve done instead of taking the situation as a lesson to grow from it. The past is already done and over with, so why waste your time dwelling in the past? Even if you’ve had a bad yesterday, don’t overthink the outcomes. Whatever it is, you’re not alone. Allow the negative emotions to flow, but don’t let it take over you. Let go of anything that no longer serves a purpose in your life in order for you to prosper and move forward. No matter how much it hurts, focus on becoming better now so that you can live happily and freely.
You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing everything with logic. If words control you, that means everyone else can control you. Breath and allow things to pass.

Choose to be happy
It may seem like other people and certain things are in control of your happiness when really, you are the one that is in charge of your own happiness. There are times when being happy feels meaningless, because there’s always something that takes away your happiness out of no where. Your happiness will only be snatched away if you hold back the power. You’ll never be happy if you’re constantly depending on others for your happiness to get going. Once you realize that you’re capable of being happy on your own, you start to live life the fullest. Live the life you love for yourself with every breath you take.
Embrace your flaws
Fake your confidence, but let it flow naturally. Your insecurities do not define you. No one is perfect. The only existence that is actually perfect is the one and only Almighty God. God loves you and your insecurities more than you ever think. He made you this way to stand out. Imagine if everyone in the world was the same, it would be boring wouldn’t it? Being different and imperfect is what makes us unique. We all come in many different colors, forms, and sizes. Stop caring about what that boy thinks, what she thinks, or what anyone thinks. You are your own person and it would be a waste to lose yourself in someone else’s. As soon as you start to love yourself, you enjoy life as it comes.
Take up your hobbies
Your hobbies don’t necessarily have to be a talent or skill, but something you love to do. You can go fishing, biking, skiing during the winter time, working out at the gym, traveling, or journaling. Working on your hobbies will help get your mind off of anything that doesn’t serve you in the moment. Your hobbies can be fun and stress-free whether you’re by yourself or with someone. As long as it makes you happy, keep going and always push yourself. Life is all about learning and taking chances as it comes, so don’t miss out on the opportunities that you have now!
